Job Summary:

The Equipment Maintenance Specialist will be responsible for overseeing the safety protocols and maintenance of equipment used in our manufacturing and construction operations. This role involves conducting regular safety inspections, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and performing preventative maintenance and repairs on specialized equipment such as gantry and jib cranes, wheelabrator, forming rolls, industrial dust collectors, CNC plasma cutting machine, and press brakes to minimize downtime and enhance operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct regular safety inspections and audits of manufacturing equipment to ensure safe and efficient operations.
  • Develop and implement safety protocols and procedures in compliance with industry regulations.
  • Train employees in proper equipment usage.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on specialized equipment nincluding gantry and jib cranes, wheelabrator, forming rolls, industrial dust collectors, CNC plasma cutting machine, and press brakes.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance activities, and equipment performance.
  • Collaborate with the operations team to identify and address potential safety hazards.
  • Ensure all equipment is in optimal working condition and meets safety standards.
  • Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and coordinate repairs with external vendors if necessary.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in safety and maintenance practices.
  • Perform other shop duties as needed depending on workload company needs

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or degree in a related field preferred.
  • Proven experience in equipment maintenance within the manufacturing or heavy construction industry.
  • Experience with operating and maintaining high-powered (480V) equipment.
  • Experience with welding and weld equipment.
  • Proven ability to create preventative maintenance plans for older equipment.
  • Strong knowledge of safety regulations and best practices.
  • Proficiency in using maintenance management software and tools is preferred.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Physical ability to perform maintenance tasks and lift heavy equipment.

Our Company:

D&R Tank is the largest designer and manufacturer of large capacity, welded steel water tanks in New Mexico and works in surrounding states such as Texas, Arizona, Colorado, and Oklahoma.  Since the company’s inception in 1978, D&R Tank has manufactured and rehabilitated over 1,500 welded steel tanks.  In addition to tanks, we also fabricate and design metal projects to customers’ specifications for several industries including art projects!

Hours: Monday- Friday, 7 am to 4:30 pm, 9/80 work schedule

Description:

The structural engineer will design and manufacture above-ground storage solutions for municipal, public, and private use. During the engineering phase of the tank design, we perform several calculations to ensure structural requirements are met based on building code including seismic, wind and snow load conditions. Every tank and foundation must meet codes, including NFPA, API, NSF and AWWA Standards. Once designed and engineered, the structural engineer will review and seal all tank drawings for customer approvals. Every tank and foundation we design is unique to meet those needs.

Responsibilities include:

  • Create, revise, and improve production prints using AutoCAD
  • Work with sales team and project managers to interpret customers’ needs
  • Work through drawing approval process
  • Support fabrication processes with plasma cutting layouts and designs
  • Maintain knowledge base of AWWA, API, NFPA manufacturing procedures
  • Maintain database of customer drawings and stock parts drawings
  • Communicate daily and solve problems with project managers, shop, and field crews in terms of design/drafting/engineering support of storage tank repair projects and new tank construction

Requirements:

  • Experience: 5 years 
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering
  • An ideal candidate would have completed the EIT/FE exam and is working towards their Professional Engineering license
  • Working knowledge and demonstrated use of AutoCAD or similar software
  • Strong math and geometry skills
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Team-based approach to day-to-day business, problem solving, and leadership with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to relate to and work in harmony with field/shop personnel, management, and administrative staff
  • Be self-sufficient with the ability to perform a wide range of tasks with minimal supervision
  • Be or become a technical expert on AWS, API 650/653/620, AWWA D100, OSHA, NFPA, etc.
